STRUPETS
An expensive tourist village with surrounding mountainous forest.
Around 300 people. Double the population in summer, from rich Sofians with villas. Three shops, cafe. Doctor's surgery 4 days a week.
2.4 miles to the town of Roman, and near the Sofia motorway.
Main railway station Sofia-Varna some 2 miles away. Regular buses to Roman & Mezdra.
The big fishing river Iskar is nearby. Also a good fishing lake.
Ancient remains around, including the Strupeshka mound, where you can still see traces of Roman fortresses. Several attempts to excavate because of traditions of buried gold.
Eco-paths throughout this region, perfect for rural tourism. Wonderful restored monastery for overnight stops.
