STARO SELO

A small, ancient, totally unspoiled village with under 100 residents. [staro selo means 'old village' in Bulgarian]

Some great old buildings.

Wonderful mountainous forests & rivers. Deep caves.

Tourist village with double population in summer from rich Sofians with villas.

4 miles from Mezdra City station [trains to Sofia cost under 3 pounds and take an hour] Regular buses to the towns of Roman & Mezdra.

Prehistoric remains have been found here. Also Byzantine treasure circa 5th century AD. Remains of an ancient, massive fortress nearby.

Eco-paths throughout this region, perfect for rural tourism.
